A growing project - 2010-07-18 15:05:30
The budget as well as the team is growing bigger! The total amount of the donations have now reached 25 000 SEK (2500 euro) and Film i Halland decided to support us financially, which is a great relief. More people have joined the team! It’s impressing how many people there is who’s willing to work for free to spread Joe’s story. We now work with professional makeup-artists, prop makers as well as electricians. Go to this link to see the crew and find their websites.

The Joe Odd Pilot - 2010-07-01 00:01:54
The process of turning Joe Odd into a film has turned out to be a long one. Mainly because we’ve been studying and working on other jobs to pay our bills. The plan was to shoot the film for 3 weeks this summer. But since we're neither prepared or fully financed we, earlier this spring, came to the conclusion that the most responsible thing to do would be to shoot a smaller part of the film. We call it the Joe Odd pilot. The pilot will be shown to potential financiers and our odd supporters. In time we’ll be able to make a unique film out of Joe’s story.

Joe Odd redrawn - 2010-06-13 06:35:15
When we bought the original 1991 copy of the Joe Odd drawings, Nicolas, who drew them, started to draw a new refined version of the story. In February the redrawn version of Joe Odd was finished and between March and May there was a Joe Odd exhibition at the Java Arts Café in Phonm Pehn, Cambodia. Pictures from the exhibition will be uploaded soon.

We all wish we could have been there and we hope to have another exhibition here in Sweden with more of Nicolas art once the film premieres.

If you wish to purchase the redrawn version of Joe Odd contact Nicolas C. Grey. And you should defenitly check out more of Nicolas art.

Lobotomy - 2010-02-14 23:18:44

We have a film recommendation for those of you who are interested in the history of lobotomy and different voices about it! It's the swedish documentary "Det vita snittet" ("The white incision"). It's based on interviews with former mental patients, doctors and scientists. In the film you will see both positive and negative opinions about the method. Unfortunately it's in Swedish and without subtitles. You can watch it here or in SVT2 18/2 or 20/2.

"The white incision" refers to a surgical operation used on mentally unstable people. Lobotomy (also known as leucotomy) was developed by the Portoguese doctor Egas Moniz in 1949. Between 1940 and 1970 Scandinavian doctors used this method on more than 9000 people. 4500 of them were swedish. Lobotomy basically means that you cut of nerve-paths that connects the frontal lobe with the centre of the emotional life. This was done to reduce anxiety, stop obsessions and sometimes just to cure people who didn't fit the idea of a perfect world. They even performed lobotomy on a mentally retarded 7 year old girl. She died three days after the operation.

With the knowledge we have today, lobotomy is seen as a antiquated method. But who knows what we will think of the methods, used on mentally unstable people, in a couple of years - when we have learned even more about the human brain?

GIFF 2010 - 2010-01-30 03:58:04

10 days each year we get to enjoy films, seminars and good times in the city of Gothenburg, thanks to the largest film festival in Scandinavia, Göteborg International Film Festival.

Most of our crew has already arrived. We will be meeting with friends, filmmakers, a casting agency, possible new crew members and more!

We've brought the Canon 7D and hopefully we can get some footage during the festival, we might post a video with updates of the status of the festival and the status of our Oddwork.

Some people have asked us to show off some of our work here on joeodd.com so we're making a show reel, it won't drop for another week or two due to the festivities in Gothenburg. But we did start a Vimeo account and uploaded some of our shorter films from 2008.

See you in Gothenburg, keep an eye out for Odd shirts!

Film I Halland - 2010-01-21 18:49:42

Today we've had a meeting with Birgitta Olsson from Film i Halland.

Film i Halland is the resource center for film makers in Halland. They support film makers both financially and with equipment. They have earlier been involved in films such as Farväl Falkenberg (Falkenberg Farewell, 2006), Man tänker sitt (Burrowing, 2009), Broder Daniel forever (2009), Hälsningar från skogen (Greetings from the Woods, 2009).

This was our second meeting with Birgitta and it felt really positive. She is for sure interested in Joe Odd. Let's just hope that she will approve our application for financial support.

Makeup artists - 2010-01-17 20:40:41

We're now looking for makeup artists. We need one or more persons whom can put their soul into our project. The job is to create masks for the charactars (probably made of latex). You will work independently, supervised by our director and cooperating with the set designer and costume designer.

The masks must be finished before the shooting in August, but we also need at least one mask ready during springtime, for us to do some tests. We prefer that you live in Halland or at least somewhere nearby. At this pont we can't guarantee any salaries - but of course we're doing the best we can to find money!

Are you the one we're looking for? Or maybe you have a friend that might be interested? If so, contact amanda.leissner@gmail.com

Yesterday we had a meeting with the principal of Katrineberg. Our plan is to shoot most of the film in the area. Here we have accommodation, food, equipment and nice locations. We wish to have Katrineberg as our main base.

Yesterday we introduced the project to the principal Gösta Hassel. He was very supportive and gave us some great news. He will let the whole team stay at Katrineberg for free during the shooting!

This actually means that he just lifted about 50 000 SEK (4700+ Euros) from our budget. Wonderful!

In other news we have now received 13 000 SEK (1250+ Euros) in donations! Much love to all the people who donated! If you also want to be a part of the making of The Stroy of Joe Odd you can donate here

Novemberfestivalen - 2009-12-02 19:53:48

We're home again after a great weekend at the Novemberfestival in Trollhättan. Hundreds of people from all over Sweden visited the festival and they all got a chance to read Joe's story. We met a lot of young filmmakers, saw some really good films and showed of our brand new Joe Odd t-shirts.

Our special effects leader Björn Hägglund won the jurys special prize for his film 8-5, because of it's special form and new way of telling a story. Congrats Björn!

We also had a chance to talk about Joe Odd with the new shortfilm counsellor from Film i Väst, Sofie Björklund. Let's hope we made a good impression.

This weekend we're going to the film festival Novemberfestivalen to promote Joe Odd.
Novemberfestivalen is a platform for young filmmakers, that takes place in the swedish town Trollhättan.
During three days they will show short films made by people under the age of 27. Among the prizes are equipment worth 69 000 SEK (6500 euro).

The cinematographer of Joe Odd, Daniel Nordgren, competes with his film Flaskpost (A morning at the beach).
Björn Hägglund, our special effects leader, competes with the film 8-5. Break a leg Björn and Daniel!

We're looking forward to three days of inspiring films and nice people that we hope will take an interest in Joe Odd.

Recycling - 2009-11-15 20:26:45

To raise money for Joe Odd we recycle cans. In Sweden you get 50 öre (0.04 euro) when you recycle one can. We've knocked on doors and dug through trash for more then one month now and last week was the second time we collected our bounty. We made 800 SEK!

That's a lot of bottles and cans.

So far we've made 1000 SEK which is about 100 euros!

According to Pantamera Returpack, we've saved as much energy as a car consumes in 580 kilometers.

Hopefully we can save as much energy as we spend on the making of the film by just recycling cans.

joeodd.com - 2009-11-15 20:23:07

We've uploaded some pictures and we're working on descriptions for them. In the future we will have photo albums for Masks, Scenography, Artwork, Fan art, Production, etc.

In the video section you'll be able to see some behind the scenes footage and some other films that we, Everyone we know, made together.

We've uploaded a song in the audio section that reminds us of Joe's story. Maybe it was inspired by this song?

Soon you will be able to choose your language here on joeodd.com, As. Director Anna has translated the site in to French and we're working on the Swedish translation. We're also planing on translating it in to Spanish and German.

Keep emailing us suggestions and noticed errors that needs to be fixed so we can make joeodd.com easier and better!
